Download of the Week: Envy & Other Sins – Highness

After coming back from the brink to win Channel 4’s ‘indie X-Factor’, mobileAct Unsigned, at the end of last year, Birmingham-based four-piece Envy & Other Sins  certainly have a lot to look forward to in 2008 – and it all starts with Highness, the band’s debut single.Having been locked away in a London studio for the last five weeks working on a debut album with producer Danton Supple – whose previous clients include Elbow, Coldplay and Morrissey – the band are ready to prove themselves to their public on a huge UK tour that hits London tonight.mobileAct viewers (that’s pretty much anyone who spends Sunday mornings in bed with a hangover) will be familiar with Highness as the song the band performed on the final show. It’s the sound of Franz Ferdinand having a pillow fight with the Kaiser Chiefs while the Bluetones play Britpop covers next door and it’s just a little bit catchy. Here’s a challenge for you: listen to Highness and try not to hum the chorus immediately after the song’s finished. Can’t do it, can you? Thought not.www.envyandothersins.co.uk
