The standard 3-pin plug is set for a serious overhaul after design student Min-Kyu Choi won the overall 2010 Brit Insurance Design Award last night.

No matter how tiny our gadgets become, if they have to be plugged into the mains, there’s going to be some serious bulk added.

The British 3-pin mains plug has been around since 1946 and is the bane of many a gadget-lover’s existence and arch nemesis of bare feet everywhere.

Min-Kyu Choi’s design for an ingenious, space-saving folding plug blows the chubby old version out of the water, and we’re looking forward to seeing it on our gadgets someday. His design for a multi-plug adaptor is also beautifully thought out.

Are there any everyday products that you think should be redesigned? Let us know in the comments.
