Android Silver replacing Google’s Nexus line?

Google’s Nexus devices have typically been the best way to get a pure Android experience unadorned by hefty bloatware and manufacturer tweaks, but that may be coming to an end. Luckily, it’s not necessarily bad news.

Multiple sources have indicated to The Information that Google plans to replace the Nexus line with the new Android Silver program, for which device makers will produce top-tier handsets that are free of extraneous software, consistently styled, and primed to receive timely OS updates.

No word yet on when to expect the first of these so-called Silver devices, but Motorola and LG are reportedly the favorites to be among the initial wave of manufacturers behind the branding.

Xbox One to launch in China this September

According to a video posted to (and quickly pulled from) Microsoft’s official Xbox channel on YouTube, the console manufacturer plans to release its Xbox One in China this September.

Besides offering a huge base of new potential customers, it’s especially significant because China just recently lifted a ban on video game consoles that had been in effect since 2000. PC games have flourished there in the meantime, though it’ll be very interesting to see how Microsoft’s elaborate offering does in a country that’s lacked new consoles for more than a decade.

Delayed PS4 racer Driveclub due in October

Sony’s own Driveclub was slated to be one of the biggest exclusives in the PlayStation 4 launch lineup, but then it ducked out of sight, reportedly in need of significant work. A development team shake-up and several months later, and the social-centric racer is now due out on 8 October (it’ll drop a day earlier in North America).

Hailing from Evolution Studios, the developer behind PS3’s stunning off-road MotorStorm series, Driveclub puts a premium on online interactions, letting you join racing teams and compete together in speedy road races. Will it still be the showcase it intended to be a year later than planned?

Office for iPad apps now let you print

Remember a few weeks back when Microsoft finally delivered iPad versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to the App Store? And recall how baffling it was when we all then realized that they didn’t include the ability to print documents? Yeah, that was an odd move.

Luckily, Microsoft didn’t wait too long to fix its mistake, as all three apps now include the ability to print to AirPrint-compatible devices. You don’t need to have an active Office 365 subscription to print from the free apps—but you won’t be able to do much else unless you shell out for the service.
