Well it’s compatible with all dock-connecting iPods as well as the iPhone, for a start. It still charges from your car’s ciggy lighter, but now it uses SmartScan technology to find the three best FM frequencies for playing you tracks, then saves them in the memory for quickfire selection later. And if your car stereo has RDS, the iTrip AutoPilot will even throw up the song info on its display.

Even better, though, is the control unit on the end of the charging plug. It allows you to select tracks and control volume, and also features a light ring which glows red/yellow/green depending upon the amount of charge left in your iPod. So now you can slam your iPod in the glovebox instead of trying to wedge it in a cup-holder.

The iTrip AutoPilot does a lot more than the original, but contrary to its name, don’t expect it to drive your car for you, you crazy fool.
