ITN has partnered up with British internet search maestro blinkx, which collects video content from a bunch of sources and then lets you search through them all in one spot, to give American biggies Google and Yahoo! a run for their money.

If you fancy brushing up on your current affairs with a few visuals, now is probably a good time. You’ll be able to search over 80 ITN clips per week with blinkx – catching breaking national and international news and analysis and, if your in a glitzy mood, as much showbiz as your dancing shoes can endure.

ITN may be the latest in a sizeable line up including Reuters, Business Week and the New York Times to partner up with blinkx, but it’s the first to get in on blinkx.tv DirectPlay which will link ITN up to both www.blinkx.tv‘s search results as well as www.ITN.co.uk, and power the official ITN player.

Google has also signed a content deal with ITN but whereas Google only offers historical content, leaving you sadly behind the times, the blinkx deal lets you search for breaking current news, keeping you ahead of the flock. To top it off, footage on blinkx is free but costs between 50 and 99 cents on Google.

Blinkx isn’t doing this simply out of some fervent desire to disseminate general knowledge though. It’s using advertising wizard Eyeblaster’s Rich Media Platform to stick ads into all searchable ITN content and whip up a little pocket money – in which both companies will share.
