Microsoft readies price drop for Xbox 360

With LA-based games gathering E3 just around the corner, rumours of a price drop for the Xbox 360 just won’t abate, with evidence hitting us here at the Stuff.tv news desk from all sides. Or maybe that’s just the boss telling us to do some work.

Still, the latest rumour nuggets come from across the globe, pointing to worldwide announcement at E3 in a couple of weeks. To kick off, American news site The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the 20GB model would drop in price by $50 to $299. A small decline in dollars but enough to bring it down to a full ton cheaper than the PS3.

To back that up we’ve heard today that Australia and New Zealand are also getting the same $50 price drop making the 360 the cheapest console down under. Could Bill Gates be clearing space in the Microsoft stock cupboard for a new model of the Xbox? The plot thickens.

So is this a sign of things to come? Is a spanking new 60GB Xbox 360 just around the console corner? We’ll find out in a couple of weeks. And so will you, with all the E3 coverage you can shake a Wii remote at, right here on Stuff.tv.
