NXT weaves speakers into projector screen

There aren’t many flat surfaces that NXT hasn’t loaded up with its impossibly thin speakers, but projector screens are one of them. Or rat

There aren’t many flat surfaces that NXT hasn’t loaded up with its impossibly thin speakers, but projector screens are one of them. Or rather were – say hello to Speaker Screen, a world first from the company. The ASS-60AK – a pun-inducing model name if ever we saw one – includes NXT’s SoundVu tech which enables the screen itself to become a loudspeaker and act as the centre channel in a surround setup. It sounds bizarre, but is apparently a technique you’ve already experienced at your local Odeon. To make sure it doesn’t sound like a loudspeaker wrapped in a duvet, the screen is constructed from a special woven fabric that is designed to resonate invisibly and produce a decent sound output. As you can see, the screen isn’t exactly an ideal centrepiece for your home cinema setup, but could be ideal for presentations. It has an audio input jack to hook up your laptop, and can be rolled up for the train journey home. If that doesn’t get you the contract, nothing will.

NXT ASS-60AK Price: 59,800 Yen (£285) On sale: TBA (July in Japan)Contact: NXT
