O2 iPhones out of stock

With the news this morning that the current 8GB and 16GB versions of the iPhone were marked as “no longer available” on the O2 iPhone page, speculation about the imminent launch of the 3G iPhone was rife.

However, O2 tells us that in fact the 16GB iPhone was merely “temporarily out of stock in our online store this morning”. They assure us that they are “replenishing stock of the 16GB iPhone and customers wishing to purchase through our online store will be able to shortly”. In the meantime the 16GB iPhone is still available in their high street stores.

So it looks like we can go back to expecting the announcement of the 3G iPhone at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco next month after yesterday’s leaked AT&T memo.

Quite who decided to put “iPhone no longer available” instead of “temporarily out of stock” on the website, we don’t know, but it seems to us like they’re making sure there’s plenty of room on the shelves for when the 3G iPhones comes flooding in…
