Orange has announced the UK’s first ‘quadruple play’ deal offering broadband, fixed-line, mobile calls and home TV.
Its takeover of Wanadoo will supply the broadband part of the deal, and Orange has said it will be offering a ‘One Phone’ deal – likely to be something like Nokia’s mobile-cum-internet 6136 above – that will give you one handset for all calls.
Existing customers will also benefit, with the offer of ‘free’ broadband to anyone who has a monthly contract worth £30 or more, although you’ll still need to pay £10 per month line rental and get locked into an 18-month contract.
The deal will supply you with the very cool Livebox and Wireless & Talk VOIP service, which will give you free evening and weekend calls or – for £6 per month extra – free calls to landlines at any time on the Orange Anytime deal.
Orange’s convergence move – which will see it compete with NTL following its takeover of Virgin mobile – will give you the convenience of one bill for all your calls, along with a single e-mail address for your mobile and broadband.
You’ll be able to check out the first deals from tomorrow when the Wanadoo and Orange websites will become one, and Orange has promised a home TV service that will complete the quadruple service in the near future.
Update (31/5/05): Orange has told us that a range of ‘One phone’ handsets will be announced by the end of the year, and that the landline, mobile and broadband services will be available from the new site to consumers and not just business users.
