Well, well, well, all of a sudden it looks like Apple’s iPhone has got some real competition. Samsung has taken the wraps off the drop dead gorgeous F700 smartphone it’ll be parading at 3GSM in Barcelona next week.Like the iPhone it’s a touchscreen model employing an entirely new interface, but this handset also packs a full slide-out keyboard with vibration feedback for easier typing. From the screenshots it looks like the menus are based entirely on Flash, and what Samsung’s intriguingly describing as a ‘drag and drop’ method of navigation. As well as music and movie playing, this beauty is also a photo specialist with a 5MP autofocus camera to put Apple’s 2MP effort in the shade. And Samsung hasn’t forgotten the 3G, packing it with the highest spec 7.2Mbps HSDPA, capable of downloading an MP3 in a cool four seconds. The dimensions show it to be almost exactly the same size overall as the iPhone but shaped more towards the small and cuddly end of the spectrum than Apple’s long and sleek. That translates as a full centimetre shaved off both the iPhone’s length and width but an extra half centimetre added to the thickness to accommodate those lovely slide out keys. We’re hoping to have a play with this and a few other iPhone challengers when we fly into Barcelona next week so keep your eyes peeled on the Live Stuff blog for more as we get it.
