With music quality more important than personal hygiene to most audiophiles, the humble MP3 player hasn’t necessarily heightened their listening experience. Sure, a decent pair of headphones will help, but for real ear-pleasing performance, check out Roth Audio’s Music Cocoon MC4.It may have been designed for the iPod, with an obvious dock sitting on top of the amplifier, but be assured that if you have any other MP3 player or indeed a laptop, the MC4 has a home for it too thanks to the 3.5mm socket. If the good old CD player is your bag, a pair of RIAA sockets will come in handy. Like Fatman’s iTube before it, the MC4 uses vacuum tubes. Of course it won’t work miracles with compressed tunes from your ‘Pod, but hook your CD player up and prepare to bathe in the warm bath of pure tube sound.Roth claims it’ll be like hearing music for the first time.
