We’ve been waiting an age to get our hands on the so–called “ultimate” Eee PC and it finally landed on our door mat late last night. The Eee PC S101 is nothing like its plasticky predecessors. Its got a rather sleek metal “mocha brown” body, is far slimmer than the 901 and looks a million miles classier than any other netbook we’ve seen.First impressions then, are good. But what can we expect from a machine that’s going to hit you for £449 when it finally launches next month. Well, this model here has a mere 16GB SSD, although Asus has told us there’ll be a 64GB edition good–to–go come November. There’s 2GB of RAM, seeing off all other netbook competition and the ubiquitous Intel Atom processor to get things going nicely. It’s a 10.2in laptop, meaning it’s far easier to type away on, with the keyboard seemingly cut from far better cloth than the bottom–end netbooks we’ve played with. We’re off to work on a hands–on video and full review, so stay tuned for more. While you wait, make sure you check out our feature on what to look for in a new netbook.
