Want to work like Apple’s Jony Ive? Buy his desk
We’ve drooled over his one-off camera for Leica, and now you can get even closer to Apple’s Sir Jonathan Ive - by bidding on a desk he's designed
Apple’s design chief has worked with a US firm and fashion guru Marc Newson to create a one-off solid metal desk to be auctioned for Bono’s Red charity. The entire desk is hewn from a giant 2600lb chunk of aluminium – and unsurprisingly is pretty minimalist.

‘Designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson this piece is without precedent,’ said Sotheby’s, which is auctioning the desk this weekend.
It has been created exclusively for the (RED) Auction and measures 102 inches in length and 38 inches in depth.
Its meticulous production was kindly donated by Neal Feay Studio.
The desk is one of a series of products created by Sir Jony and designer Marc Newson, and others include a champagne bottle, camera, a grand piano and even a pair of gold headphones.
‘It’s been a fantastic honor to curate this collection of objects with Marc for the auction at Sotheby’s,’ said Sir Jonathan.
‘Each piece represents the value of thoughtful design.’
As well as the one-off camera, a Leica M with a laser-machined aluminium body and anodised aluminium outer shell, there’s a Range Rover, alongside objects such as a Russian Space Suit the pair selected as examples of great design. [Source: Red]
