If you’re a sucker for style, the Portal 1 is a top alternative to more conventional looking desktop designs and its retro styling adds a certain je ne sais quoi to proceedings.
It’s definitely worth plugging in too – the radio sounds clear, spritely and detailed – not bad for £50.
The control panel on top of the unit is easy to use but we found it a pain having to peer over the top every time
we wanted to change channel.
That said, drool-inducing looks and decent sound for 50 quid make the Portal 1 a hot DAB contender.
