New Steve Jobs documentary premieres

South by Southwest (SXSW) is raging in Austin, Texas right now, and the festivities have included a premiere for Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, a new documentary about the iconic Apple founder. It’s directed by Alex Gibney, who is best known for earlier headline documentary films like Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and HBO’s soon-to-air Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

It’s being described as a pull-no-punches look at the late tech legend, complete with interviews with colleagues and even his former girlfriend, with whom he had a long-estranged daughter. Apple’s own Eddy Cue apparently caught a viewing of the film (or just reacted to reviews of it), and wasn’t happy at all about the results. “Very disappointed in SJ: Man in the Machine. An inaccurate and mean-spirited view of my friend. It’s not a reflection of the Steve I knew,” he tweeted.

Nevertheless, the film’s distribution rights were sold this weekend, with Magnolia Pictures holding the rights to theatrical and home releases. CNN will have television broadcast rights, although it sounds like the film may hit cinemas before that happens. And with the movie already complete, we imagine it may also release widely before the Aaron Sorkin-written Steve Jobs film debuts this autumn.

Office 2016 and Skype for Business previews launch

True, these aren’t aimed at the average home user, but surely professionals will want to give these a look.

The Office 2016 preview introduces a number of security and accessibility improvements, while Skype for Business is the overhauled version of Microsoft’s Lync, which adds new features while embracing the familiar design of Skype. EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour series was set to return this year simply as EA Sports PGA Tour, but now a younger and recently much more successful golfer will take his headline spot.

Indeed, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will spotlight the sensational Irish golfer, who at the age of 25 is currently the top-ranked golfer in the world after racking up four major championship wins. The game is set to hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in June, and features 18-hole courses with zero load times due to the entire locale being loaded and rendered at once.
