Nokia T21 lands as firm’s latest wallet-friendly tablet

HD streaming and a beefy battery

Nokia T21 tablet hot stuff

Nokia has been going great guns recently when it comes to affordable tablets. The Nokia T20 proved you didn’t need to spend a lot to get a decent Android experience, and the recently-announced Nokia T10 did much of the same but in a smaller form factor. The firm is now hoping to repeat that with the new Nokia T21.

The new model builds on what made the T20 such a hit, with a similar screen size (10.4in) and resolution (2000×1200) – only this time it gains active pen support, for doodling with a digital stylus if you’ve got one to hand. Nokia has also been sure to support HD streaming this time around, something that was hit-or-miss on the T20.

As with most of Nokia’s announcements from this year’s IFA show in Berlin, the T21 is made from a healthy portion of recycled plastic, and promises three years of security updates. That should hopefully extend its usable life and be a little kinder to the planet.

There’s a pair of 8MP cameras: one on the back with autofocus and an LED flash, and one on the front for selfies and video calls.

Underneath you’re looking at a Unisoc T612 CPU and 4GB of RAM, along with 64GB or 128GB of on-board storage and microSD support for adding more capacity later. The whole thing is powered by an 8200mAh battery, which has been tested for an extended 800 power cycles.

It’s going on sale later this year for €239 (around £200).

Nokia is also refreshing its audio accessory line-up with the Portable Wireless Speaker 2 and Clarity Earbuds 2 Pro.

The former is a coke can-sized Bluetooth speaker with IPX7 waterproofing to withstand the elements, and makes extensive use of recycled materials. The casing is produced from 100% post-consumer plastic, and the speaker mesh from 100% recycled aluminium.

There’s a built-in microphone for voice calls, and multiple speakers can be linked together for stereo sound. It’s also packing a battery that’s good for 22 hours of playback and USB-C charging. Expect to pay around €55.

The Clarity Earbuds 2 Pro, meanwhile are noise cancelling true wireless in-ears with ambient mode and multipoint Bluetooth for hooking up to two devices at once.

It’s IPX4 sweat resistant, so should be fine to take to the gym, and promise seven hours of battery between trips to the charging case – which is also made from 100% post-consumer plastic. Said case can manage a total of 28 hours of listening. No word on pricing for this one just yet – expect it to land later this year.
