How to buy the iPhone SE for as little as £9

Snap up Apple's new MiniPhone (and make a bit of cash in the process)

If you’re an iPhone 6s owner, chances are you’re a pretty happy bunny. It is, after all, a fantastic handset, and it’s more than likely served you well.

Still, you might be one of those people who begrudgingly snapped it up for its newer specs, while wishing it had a smaller screen.

Then Apple goes and reveals the iPhone SE, and you’re torn. It’s everything you ever wanted – the powerful innards of an iPhone 6s, with a 4in screen that’s small enough to use without requiring a gold medal in thumb-stretching gymnastics. Oh, and don’t forget the improved battery life too.

But what to do? Your iPhone 6s (cracked screen aside) is running just fine. What a moral pickle you’ve found yourself in. But fear not, for there is a rather attractive solution.

We’ve scoured various phone recycling sites to find the best prices for a whole range of iPhones – the 5s, 5c, 6 and 6s – so no matter which handset you’re currently rocking, you’ll be able to quickly and easily see just how much you can snup up a brand new iPhone SE for.

Without further ado, let’s see how much bang you can get for your buck:

The iPhone SE has the same blazing-fast processor as the iPhone 6s, as well as an identical 12MP camera and Touch ID fingerprint scanning. The main feature you’ll be missing out on is the 6s’ 3D Touch display, but it’s by no means a dealbreaker, remaining more of a novelty at this stage.

Trading in a 64GB iPhone 6s can nab you the 64GB iPhone SE for just £9, but there’s a chance you can do even better than that.

If you sell your 128GB iPhone 6s, you can snap up the 16GB iPhone SE, with a whopping £120 left over. Not bad, eh?

If you’re rocking an iPhone 6, then the SE is actually a pretty tempting option, giving you 99% of the 6s’ specs and features, but at a cheaper price.

You can pick up the iPhone SE for as little as £49 if you sell off a 128GB iPhone 6.

Still got an iPhone 5s? Then the SE will feel very familiar to you, on the outside at least. But if you’re after its impressive gaming grunt and improved camera, then you’ll be looking at spending just over £200, at the very least – not bad, considering you’re skipping a few iPhone generations in one go.

Got a colourful iPhone 5c burning a hole in your pocket? The best you can do is sell a 32GB one and grab a 16GB iPhone SE for £251 – again, not bad considering the bump in specs and design you’re getting. If you can though, spring for the 64GB option. Your apps, photos and music, will thank you for it.
