Panasonic’s Lumix G9 is here to shoot your personal Planet Earth

Wildlife-friendly mirrorless cam is faster than a speeding gazelle

If your natural photographic habitat is being on safari and narrowly avoiding becoming brunch for a peckish lion, then the Lumix G9 (£1499, from January 2018) could be your perfect photographic companion. Packing the same 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds sensor as its more video-focused GH5 cousin, this new flagship marries a stunning electronic viewfinder with the ability to shoot at 60fps in single shot mode, or 20fps with continuous autofocus trained on that bird’s wingtip. It’s not just for snapping your way to ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ glory either – flick it into video mode, and you can shoot those rapidly approaching buffaloes in 4K at 60fps. Just make sure you have an escape route too, unless you plan on making a sequel to Grizzly Man.

About

Mark's first review for Stuff was the Nokia N-Gage in 2004. Luckily, his career lasted a little longer than the taco phone, and he's been trying to figure out how gadgets fit back into their boxes ever since. While his 'Extreme Mark Wilson' persona was retired following a Microsoft skydiving incident, this means he can often be spotted in the wilds of South West London testing action cams, drones and smartwatches, and occasionally cursing at them.
