Android 2.0 update coming to HTC Hero

We heard the news yesterday that the new Motorola Droid would be the first phone to come packing the Android 2.0 update, but now HTC has confirmed the

Announcing the news via its official Twitter feed, HTC said: ““The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.”

In a full quote later on, HTC confirmed it could take some time to get Android 2.0 on to the Hero, due to it being a “significantly enhanced release”.

This means it will take a fair bit of tweaking and testing of the Sense UI to make sure it works as well as it does at the moment.

Once done though, HTC has confirmed it intends to bring the update to all versions of the Hero, but that it will be down to its partners around the world to help coordinate its delivery.

Of all the update, we’re most excited to see Google Maps Navigation hit these shores, although we’re sure the likes of TomTom and CoPilot won’t be sharing such sentiments.

There’s no news as to when we can expect it but you can be sure we’ll keep you updated with anything we hear. Check out the video of Google Maps Navigation, and let us know your thoughts on Android 2.0 below.
