It’s taken longer than expected, but Apple’s MobileMe service is now live.

MobileMe is the new name for .Mac, and if you visit www.mac.com you’ll be redirected to www.me.com and invited to log-in. I have an existing .Mac account, and logged in without any problem.

You’re presented with a row of icons in the top-left corner of the browser window, allowing you to access email, address book, calendars, photo galleries, idisk or you account details.

I also now have a new @me.com email address, although frankly I like @mac.com more. But that’s a branding issue, innit? And Apple’s made a couple of uncharateristic mistakes in that realm of late.

I’ll be testing MobileMe out over the weekend, particularly focussing on the push services (incidentally, my work email works like a treat on the iPhone using the Exchange server – all that was required was my IT team to send me a standard ActiveSync security certificate).

I’ll post a full review of MobileMe on Monday.
