Dell XPS 12 is a Surface-like transformer with a beefier keyboard

Dell has revealed a new tablet/laptop hybrid, the XPS 12, which brings the fight straight to the aluminium doors of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

The 12.5in (up to 4K resolution) tablet transforms into a laptop, thanks to a separate keyboard dock, which is both good and bad. The good news is that they keyboard dock appears to be more substantial than Microsoft’s Type Cover, with a sturdier build and heftier keys.

The bad news is that once the screen is docked, you can’t adjust the angle, which is likely to be a deal breaker for some.

Power-wise, it matches up with a mid-range Surface Pro 4, thanks to Intel’s 2.7GHz Core M5 processor, which sits in between the company’s Atom and Core chip set ranges.

You can spec out the XPS 12 with up to 256GB storage and 8GB of RAM, with the top-end model costing US$1300.

We’d still rather have the Microsoft Surface Book ourselves, but with a minimum price tag of US$1400, our wallets certainly wouldn’t be happier.
