Fully Charged: Amazon’s phone will be revealed on 18 June, LG G3 Mini specs leak, and RoboCop’s terrible baseball toss

Leaks, teases, and something silly—it’s our morning roundup, of course

Amazon dates event for phone announcement

Amazon’s long-rumoured and recently leaked handset is only two weeks away from being officially shown to the world, it seems, as the company has dated an event for 18 June and released a teaser video.

The clip shows people being wowed by a handheld device, and as Engadget points out, it accidentally shows the top of what appears to be a smartphone in one segment. Unsurprisingly, it looks rather close to the leaked render that popped up a few weeks back, but the user reactions in the video also hew closely to what’s expected from the phone.

Amazon’s smartphone is anticipated to feature five—yes, five!—front-facing cameras for facial tracking, which allow the device to deliver purportedly impressive 3D effects. It’ll also have a 4.7in display, a Snapdragon processor, and 2GB RAM, but that camera setup is easily its most enticing feature. Well, aside from the surely-appealing price.

Purported LG G3 Mini specs leaked

LG G3

The world was just introduced to the LG G3 (pictured), but might we already be looking at a Mini version on the horizon? A listing on Indian import/export site Zauba (spotted by G for Games) seems to indicate so, which means we may see the scaled-down flagship soon.

According to the listing, the G3 Mini will feature a 4.5in display, a quad-core 1.2 Ghz processor, 8GB of internal storage, a 2100 mAh battery, and a 5-megapixel camera. The previous G2 Mini had a 4.7in screen, and that camera seems a little underwhelming, so perhaps the final specs will be a bit different.

But if you like the look of the G3 and simply want something a little smaller (and less expensive), then keep an eye out for the likely release of a G3 Mini soon.

Xbox One media apps and Twitter integration incoming

Twitter on Xbox One

It’s exciting to unwrap a new gaming console and experience next-gen graphics and all that, but the crushing reality of the recent consoles’ newness reared its head when many of our favorite streaming media apps were simply nowhere to be found.

That’s starting to change, though, and Microsoft revealed this week that the Xbox One will receive 35 new apps by the end of the year, including HBO Go, NBA, and Vevo. Unfortunately, many of the apps are only pegged for a US launch initially, though that should only be at first in some cases.

And if you like watching TV but really hate paying attention, the upcoming Twitter integration will be a fun treat, as it’ll show related tweets to whatever you’re watching right below the content itself. Unfortunately, this is also only pegged for a US debut, but hopefully we’ll all be able to be distracted like that soon.

RoboCop’s pitching arm is surprisingly weak

In the world of professional baseball, it’s usually the minor league games that rely on goofy stunts to fill the seats—not so much the big leagues. Still, the Detroit Tigers called on fictional, futuristic hometown hero RoboCop this week to toss out the first pitch in an odd promotional bit.

Sadly, he seems to have been sent to the mound without his pitching plug-ins, as he’s barely able to get the ball across home plate before he turns and silently leaves the field. Hardly a fitting way to kick off #RoboCopDay.
