Got blurry iPhone 6 Plus photos? Apple is replacing defective iSight cameras
Certain models of the super-sized iPhone may have a faulty component - here's how to check
Last year’s iPhone 6 Plus has Apple’s best smartphone camera to date, augmenting the same stellar 8-megapixel shooter on the standard iPhone 6 with optical image stabilisation. But what if your shots just aren’t stacking up?
At least you can take some solace in knowing that it’s probably not your problem alone – and you can do something about it with minimal hassle. Late on Friday, Apple announced a replacement programme for faulty iSight cameras on the iPhone 6 Plus.
If your 6 Plus back camera is producing burry shots with regularity, it may be due to a faulty component within the camera. Apple has isolated the problem and limited it to certain models sold between September 2014 and January 2015. You can check your phone’s serial number on Apple’s site for the programme. And even if your phone’s camera is currently working fine, you ought to give it a look in case you can avoid future issues.
Assuming your problematic device is one on Apple’s list, you’ll be able to get the camera module replaced at an Apple Store or an authorized service provider. It doesn’t sound like Apple is doing a simple device swap, although you should still back up your phone’s contents just in case something goes awry.
Apple’s programme covers this issue for three years from the purchase of the phone, so you’ve got a little time. Then again, if your big, expensive phone is pumping out clunkers every time you line up a shot, you might want to jump on this right away. Especially before Apple’s retail stores get inundated with people trying to grab the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the other new devices expected to be revealed in a couple weeks.
