HTC One E9 is a bigger, slimmer M9

Is this a souped-up version of the M9 – or an update to the E-line?

It’s been mere days since the HTC One M9 was officially launched, but leaks of another model may be in danger of stealing its thunder. The HTC One E9 looks set to be a svelter, bigger phone. Think a 5.5-inch 2K or QHD (2560 x 1440) screen.

The phone will reportedly be powered by an octacore processor and according to China’s telecommunications regulator TENAA, there’ll also be a 2,800 mAh battery aboard.

An HTC phablet, perhaps?

What will set it apart, besides its size, is that the E9 will be running on a MediaTek MT6795 2.0GHz processor instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. Other possible features include 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal memory and, like the M9, a 20MP rear camera.

Speculation is that the phone might not actually be an E-model but instead be a M9 plus.

Even more intriguing is that HTC has sent out invites for a launch in China – potentially to the E9’s official debut, perhaps? As to pricing, it’s rumoured to be around US$324, which sounds far too cheap for a phone with these specs. Especially as HTC’s not exactly known for selling high-spec phones at lowish prices.
