iPhone 6 with a larger 4.8in display could launch in September
Apple’s latest iPhone could be going through a growth spurt according to the latest predictions
The iPhone 6 could be entering Android screen territory with a 4.8in screen, according to the latest analyst predictions.
Sources within Apple’s supply chain reportedly told analyst Timothy Arcuri from Cowen and Company about the increase in screen real estate, which will be met with open arms by many, and shunned by smaller-handed gadgeteers who are content with the current 4in screen size.
The size bump could pose new challenges for app scaling however. It’s unclear whether or not Apple will go for a 768 pixel width (or multiple of it) to match that of the iPad range. If it doesn’t, then a new method of app scaling is likely to be introduced.
The iPhone 6 will also apparently arrive with 802.11ac Wi-Fi (which is already present in the Galaxy S4 and HTC One and 2013 Mac line-up), offering speeds up to three times faster than existing wireless networks.
Arcuri also believes that Apple will take advantage of its Touch ID sensor, iBeacon and Passbook tech to create a new mobile payments solution that will bypass the need for NFC – a feature which has yet to turn up in any of Apple’s devices.
The iPhone 6 will reportedly follow tradition with a September launch – not the June launch suggested earlier this week – and we don’t expect the rumours to slow down in the meantime. Stay tuned.
