Meet the Pentax K-S2 – the world’s smallest weatherproof DSLR

And with a screen that flips 180 degrees, it’ll let you take selfies in a thunderstorm

Ricoh has just pulled the wraps off the latest Pentax DSLR, and it’s quite the feature show-off.

The new K-S2 is, according to Ricoh, the world’s smallest weatherproof DSLR. That means it’s sealed to prevent water, mist and dust getting in – not that you can dunk it in the nearest pond and expect it to be fine afterwards. Essentially, if you want a camera that’ll let you shoot in pretty much anything the British climate can chuck at you, the K-S2 fits the bill.

If you like pina coladas, and taking selfies in the rain…

In common with a lot of cameras being released today, it also offers a screen that flips 180 degrees, allowing the user to easily take selfies or hold the camera at unusual angles and still get a good idea of what it’s pointing at.

On the features front, the Pentax K-S2 offers a 21.12MP APS-C sensor, full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording, an anti-aliasing filter simulator to cut down on moiré, a full glass pentaprism viewfinder with almost 100 percent coverage, an 11-sensor autofocus system, ISO sensitivity to 51,200, 5.5fps continuous shooting, Wi-Fi and NFC, in-body image stabilisation and, with the optional O-GPS1 GPS unit, the Astro Tracer mode for vastly simplified astronomical photography.

The Pentax K-S2 will be available from £550 body only and from £650 with a kit lens, in three colour finishes. Look out for it soon.
