It’s been rumoured almost as long as the iPhone was but the wraps have finally been taken off the new Vodafone-exclusive Treo 500v – the first major reworking of the Treo design for yonks. It’s had quite an overhaul, with high-speed UMTS data and spanking new Windows Mobile 6 complete with Direct Push email along the way. There’s a cool white version (pictured) or the more traditional graphite for Palm purists. We’re also pleased to note it’s been given a more reasonable 2MP camera. But the biggest change is the lack of stylus – and that’s not because Palm’s developed any iPhone-esque multi-touch display either. Instead Palm’s dropped the touchscreen altogether. The QWERTY keyboard, large screen and Microsoft Office abilities should still make it a hit with Treo fans, while the bargain ‘free on contract’ price tag should win it some new ones. We’ll deliver our verdict as soon as we’ve had a good play.Essentials Palm Treo 500vPrice: £Free on contract On sale: October Contact: Palm Related stories: Palm folds the Foleo Vodafone’s Christmas crackers Buy Treo, get TomTom free
