Rumour mill – Nikon D5100 spotted?

Is the D5000's successor finally to hit the shops?

Nikon hasn’t launched a new DSLR in a while, but that could be about to change. Some spy snaps of boxes labelled “Nikon D5100” have been posted online, suggesting a new entry-level model could be close.

Assuming the boxes are genuine, the D5100 would be a replacement for the current Nikon D5000, which was discontinued by Nikon earlier this year. As the D5000 launched back in 2009, it made sense to see it swapped for a refreshed snapper, but Nikon has yet to make an official reveal.

The Nikon D5100 won’t be the cheapest model in Nikon’s DSLR line-up – there’s still the D7000 – but will most likely be the most affordable to feature video and live view.
