Sony HD action camera makes its online debut

Now we'll see how tough GoPro really is with the arrival of a new rugged cam contender, teased by Sony. Fight!

It takes a special calibre of gadget to say ‘Strap me to your helmet and let’s go paragliding.’ But Sony is looking to join this elite club of fearless tech accessories with the introduction on The Sony Blog of its new wearable video cam for POV footage during extreme sports.

Specs on this action cam are vague for now (with no price and release date in sight) but we do know that it will arrive packing an Exmor R CMOS sensor, wide-angle Carl Zeiss lens and it’ll shoot in HD.

Sony’s SteadyShot image stabilisation will also be on board the tough cam, although there’s only so much it’ll be able to do when you’re jumping out of plane.

Sony also promised it will ‘tiny and lightweight’ enough to perch at the side of skiing goggles or atop a helmet plus rugged and waterproof cases will be available to keep the camera dry and in one piece. Sony can’t say the same for you, though, obviously.
