Vonage has shacked up with Wi-Fi specialist The Cloud to give its users internal calls on the move.
If you’ve got the company’s Wi-Fi phone, the UTStarcom F1000 above, and a Vonage account, you’ll be able to make VoIP calls from any of The Cloud’s hotspots from early May.
There’ll be no fiddling around with passwords or log-ins when you get in range of wireless tomfoolery – the phone will automatically hop onto the net in BT Fusion fashion – and the calls won’t cost a penny on top of the £8 a month you’ll already be paying.
Like Skype, Vonage’s ‘Residential Unlimited’ package gives you unlimited free calls to the UK and Ireland, and to other Vonagers anywhere else in the world.
The Cloud’s cover has been spreading across the UK of late, with city centre hotspots over nine cities including Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester being rolled out, and its zones topping 7,000 across the country.
Skype isn’t standing idly by and watching, though – its service will be available on the handsome Netgear SPH101 mobile phone from June, and won’t require a subscription charge.
For more info on Vonage go to its site, and check out our guide to internet telephony in the June issue of Stuff (out 3rd May).
