Budget Galaxy Note Neo could be the world’s first six-core smartphone

Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy Note Neo – a budget addition to its Note phablet family.

According to GSM Arena’s anonymous source, the Note Neo has the same 5.5in 720p display as the Note 2, in addition to 16GB of (presumably expandable) storage and 2GB of RAM.

Oh, and a hybrid six-core processor. 

Or more specifically, a 1.3GHz quad-core chip partnered up with a 1.7GHz dual-core affair.

We expect the latter to deal with low-power processes, leaving the quad-core to strut its stuff during more demanding games and applications.

If true, the Note Neo’s battery life could be even more impressive than that of its Note 2 and Note 3 brothers, thanks to the extra efficiency offered by the two processors working in tandem, not to mention its large 3,100mAh battery.

The Note Neo will also leave a little more room in your pocket than the Note 2, thanks to its thinner 8.6mm body, and it’ll arrive with Android 4.3, complete with some of the NotePRO 12.2 tablet’s software tricks.

As for a release date? Well, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona seems as good a place as any to us.

Caught in the wild

Update: SamMobile has posted a picture of what it claims to be the Samsung Galaxy Neo. It looks identical to the Note 3, bar its smaller size of course, and it appears to be genuine.
