HP has announced it is launching its own digital music service, which will see users of certain HP computers able to download as many tracks as they like for under a tenner a month.
Launched in partnership with Omnifone, the MusicStation service will differ to the likes of Spotify as tracks will be downloaded to your computer rather than streamed, meaning they will all be accessible when internet connection is poor or non-existant.
The service will cost £8.99 a month for unlimited downloads (£1 less than Spotify’s Premium service), all playable only on the PC in subscription, as well as 10 DRM free tracks a month that you can pop on your MP3 player to do with as you please.
The service will come pre-installed on 16 HP computers – 12 laptops and 4 desktops – and will feature a tailored catalogue of tunes for each of the 10 countries it’ll be available in.
Expect music from all four majors and some indie labels as well, from Omnifone’s roster of 6.5 million tracks.
The service goes live from today on compatible machines and users can give it a go for free for 2 weeks.
