Elephone dual-booting smartphone coming to China in June
Now you don’t have to choose between Android and Windows 10 for your smartphone OS – this handset has them both
The ability to dual-boot a computer is nothing new – people have been using Boot Camp to run Windows on Macs for years, for example – but it’s not every day you see that capability pop up on a phone.
So Elephone’s upcoming flagship, which runs both the Android 5.0 and Windows 10 operating systems, is pretty noteworthy – despite the fact that we reckon the chances of it getting a UK launch are about the same as the entire Stuff team being called up by the US government to jet off into space and destroy an Earth-bound killer asteroid using our supreme editorial skills.
Anyway, the phone is impressively specified, with 4GB of RAM, a 5.5in 2560 x 1440 2K screen, a 20.7MP camera with Sony-made sensor, a fingerprint scanner and an unnamed Intel chip. At least, the version capable of running both Windows 10 and Android will – there’s a second version that supports only Android and features an MTK octacore processor instead.
Like we say, we don’t hold out much hopes of this as-yet-unnamed phone coming to the UK – it’s been launched at a Hong Kong trade show, so we’d imagine China is the intended market here – but Elephone claims the Android-only edition will be on sale in May and the dual-boot version will arrive in June.
