Apple to ditch Google and bring Bing to the iPhone?

With the rivalry between Google and Apple hotting up following the launch of the Google Nexus One, rumour has it that Cupertino could be turning to its old nemesis Microsoft to provide the default search engine for the iPhone.
This, according to Business Week, comes two people “familiar with the matter”, who say that talks about the deal have been going on for weeks.
If it were to be finalised, it would see Bing replacing Google as the default built-in search on the iPhone.
Users preferring to use Microsoft’s search engine at the moment have to download an app or access the site directly through their browser.
Of course the main beneficiaries in the deal wouldn’t be the users, but Microsoft. Google makes a fair whack from being the default search engine, thanks to the ads it places alongside its search results. It of course shares whatever it makes with Apple, but what that is, they’ve never divulged.
Landing the iPhone default browser gig would be a huge deal for Bing, which is only used by 11% of mobile searchers according to the Nielsen Co, compared to 86% using Google.
