Apple’s Force Touch working its way into iPhones next, says report

Same display sizes, but new touch tech - and maybe a pink model, as well

Force Touch technology was introduced with the Apple Watch last fall before spreading to the new MacBook and updated MacBook Pro this week. And it appears that the iPhone will be its next target come autumn.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, whose supplier sources claim that Apple is ready to implement Force Touch into its next-generation iPhone models. Force Touch allows the display to tell the difference between a tap and a harder press, which can lead to a wider array of user interactions.

The report claims that the successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (pictured) will maintain their respective 4.7in and 5.5in displays and run at similar resolutions. If history is any indication, the next iPhones will probably have very similar bodies to the current models, as well.

Well, except for a possible pink one. Apple is reportedly testing out a pink aluminum option for the next iPhones, which will complement the current roster of silver, gold, and space gray selections.

Some components for the next iPhones will enter production in May, so Apple still has a couple of months to finalize the technical details. However, with Force Touch rapidly working its way through Apple’s hardware lineup, the report hardly seems far-fetched.
