Is this the Canon EOS 7D Mark II?

“Leaked photo” apparently shows updated DSLR ahead of likely launch next week

It’s the annual Photokina photography technology expo next week, and among the new cameras on show could be an updated edition of the wonderful Canon EOS 7D DSLR.

The Canon 7D is a professional-quality APS-C DSLR and much favoured by photojournalists, despite its reasonably affordable price. We were very much taken with it when we reviewed it – but that was all the way back in 2010. So there’s definitely scope for an updated version. And Canon are no strangers to that, having now released three different versions of the EOS 5D and god-knows-how-many (we think maybe nine?) of the EOS 1D.

Lots of new or improved features

Japanese site Digicame-info claims to have obtained a leaked image of the 7D Mark II, as well as specifications. The camera will apparently have a dust-proof magnesium alloy body; a 20.2MP CMOS sensor; dual-pixel autofocus with 65 AF points; 10fps continuous shooting; dual DIGIC6 engines; a max ISO of 16,000; a new 150,000-pixel metering system; full HD video capture at 60fps; and built-in GPS.

We should find out if these claims are on the money next week – not to mention pricing and availability details. Stay tuned, photography fans.
