Alien: Covenant is Prometheus sequel

Originally expected to be called Prometheus 2, then announced as Alien: Paradise Lost, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is now called… Alien: Covenant. And it’s coming on 6 October 2017, with a third film also expected down the line.

Covenant picks up some time after the original Prometheus, with a ship (named Covenant) landing on a seemingly uninhabited planet only to find android David, portrayed by Michael Fassbender. Unfortunately, the shift of Prometheus into an "official" Alien movie apparently means that Neill Blomkamp’s promising sequel project is on hold, as he confirmed last month. Hopefully it proves worth the wait whenever it might come out… and hopefully this Prometheus sequel makes the delay worth it.

Google engineer slams OnePlus cables

Google engineer Benson Leung is a man on a mission – and that mission is to call out USB Type-C cables that aren’t compliant with standards. And unfortunately for OnePlus, its Type-C to Type-A cable is his latest target. In fact, it’s the biggest-name cable he’s called a bad buy so far.

Why the problem? He says the cable isn’t spec compliant, using a 3A identifier resistor instead of the "Default USB Power" – and if that doesn’t mean anything to you, just know that he thinks it could hurt devices like the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Chromebook Pixel. However, it’s seemingly fine for OnePlus phones, so if that’s what you’ve got, don’t take the news too hard.

OnePlus getting Marshmallow in January

Speaking of OnePlus: the company confirmed yesterday that both the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 are slated to receive Android Marshmallow in the first quarter of 2016. For the OnePlus One, a Cyanogen OS version based on Marshmallow should be available during that span, and OnePlus says it will update its community build of OxygenOS as it can.

And then the OnePlus 2’s version of OxygenOS will also be updated to Marshmallow during Q1 2016, and will implement the regular Marshmallow API for the fingerprint sensor. No timeframe has been set for Marshmallow coming to the new OnePlus X, but the company says they’re working on making it happen "as soon as possible."

Apple Pay hitting Canada today

And lastly, if you’re in Canada and waiting to get your hands on Apple Pay, today is apparently the day – but only if you have an American Express card. As reported last month, AmEx will lead the way for further expansion of Apple’s payments service, and a customer service representative reportedly confirmed the timing to iPhone in Canada. Get your digital wallets ready, Canada.
