Wander the Tate at night as a robot – through your browser

Tate Britain has a fun proposition for you beginning tonight: Want to control a robot wandering through 500 years of British art, all through your browser? That is what’s on offer through After Dark, a five-night promotion beginning this evening.

Four roaming robots will be exploring the museum for several hours each night, and every few minutes, each will select a new master to control it via the web through a Chrome browser.

You’ll be able to see all four feeds live on the website, and art historian commentary will pipe in when nearing a piece. Check out a behind-the-scenes clip above, and tune in tonight for a chance to do some virtual nighttime wandering in the Tate.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive

In a surprising twist, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced yesterday at Microsoft’s pre-Gamescom briefing that next year’s Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox exclusive. It’s due out in the holiday season of 2015, and will surely be on Xbox One, but perhaps also Xbox 360.

It’s quite possible that this will end up being a “timed exclusive,” which means it will eventually also hit platforms like PlayStation 4 and PC once an agreed-upon window passes, but at least in 2015, it sounds like Lara Croft’s next big adventure will only be on Xbox consoles.

New Silent Hill revealed through seemingly unrelated demo

During Sony’s Gamescom briefing yesterday, it was announced that an “interactive teaser” for a mysterious new horror game called P.T. would be available immediately for download on PlayStation 4. Players that worked through its challenges were rewarded with a surprising result: turns out it’s actually a demo for a brand new Silent Hill game.

Not only that, but Konami has put Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and film director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) on the project, and it features The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus in the main role. Despite the awkward title of Silent Hills shown in the demo, it’s nice to see Konami putting some serious talent behind the series again.

Sierra Games returns with King’s Quest, Geometry Wars

As hinted a few days back, Activision has revived the classic Sierra Games label – and will be using it to publish games that don’t fit within the parent publisher’s AAA-centric philosophy.

First to debut will be a couple of very welcome faces: arcade-style shooter Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, which hails from experienced mobile game developer Lucid Games, as well as a reboot of the King’s Quest adventure series from The Odd Gentlemen, who created the wonderfully twisted The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.

Geometry Wars 3 will come first, launching this holiday season for “more platforms than ever” says Sierra, while King’s Quest will follow sometime in 2015, also for multiple unspecified platforms. Unfortunately, no images were released of either game, but it shouldn’t be long before we get a glimpse of both.
