Gear up for a new wearable – Samsung SM-R150 leaked
Could be a more fitness-focused Gear S2, but on the cheap
Samsung’s upcoming wearable sounds more like a scientific calculator than a stylish smartwatch, but don’t be fooled – it’s shaping up to be quite the looker.
The budget fitness tracker has been rumoured for months, but leaked photos that appeared on Twitter this week have finally given us a first look at what to expect.
The SM-R150 looks a lot like the Gear S2, complete with the same circular screen and rotating bezel for controlling Samsung’s Tizen interface.
That UI has been given a makeover, though, with a fitness focus instead of the usual set of smartwatch apps and features. That should help bring the price down, which is a must if Samsung wants to take on the likes of FitBit.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but based on the leaked shots it’s a safe bet the SM-R150 will have a heart rate sensor. The big surprise is that the watch can be removed from its strap and clipped onto your chest, rather than worn on your wrist.
Samsung is currently hard at work making the Gear S2 play nicely with your iPhone, so there’s a good chance this new wearable will do the same.
With Mobile World Congress just around the corner, an official announcement might not be too far away – just expect Samsung to have come up with a much, much catchier name before it reveals all.
