Google Chromecast UK release date set for 19 March

Finally, Google's Android media streamer looks set to land on UK shores

UK gadgeteers have waited an age for Google Chromescast to leave the shores of the US, but now it looks like the streaming dongle will hit shelves on 19 March.

The release date has been leaked by Dixons, and it’s welcome news for UK Android fans who have had to patiently wait since Chromecast was released across the pond last summer.

Many Android users have opted to have Chromecast dongles shipped over from the US, allowing them to stream content from the likes of Netflix and YouTube from their Android devices to the big screen without having to faff around with cables.

It’s a handy solution for smartening up non-smart TVs, but we wouldn’t start celebrating quite just yet.

The screenshot from Dixon’s inventory (obtained by Android Police) describes “one of the biggest products this year from Google’, so Chromecast isn’t explicitly mentioned.

Still, unless Google is planning on dropping the Nexus 6 far earlier than planned, it’s a safe bet to say that Chromecast will be gracing living rooms in the UK by the weekend.

We’ll be updating our Google Chomecast review with any noteworthy new apps and changes, so stay tuned.
