It seems Google has had it with slow-loading websites, and could soon be penalising those annoyingly sluggish websites in their search result page rankings.
Currently doing its own research into ways to speed up page loading times, the idea to favour fast pages over slow ones has reportedly come from the very top – Google’s co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
The powerful duo apparently want web searching to be “as fast as flipping through a magazine”, and the idea is to get you to what you’re looking for even more quickly with both relevant and fast-loading pages coming in at the top.
Although this sounds all well and good, it does go slightly against Google’s accuracy goals, as relevant but slow pages could get ranked under less relevant, faster pages.
On the flip side, it would hopefully force web develoepers to get their act together and make sure their sites ran as fast as possible – a bug bear of many frequent web users.
