Google has managed to bypass Apple’s rigid App Store guidelines which saw the Google Voice app turned away in August last year, by releasing it as a web-based app.

Just the same as it did with Latitude, Google has made the Google Voice app run directly through your mobile browser, now possible thanks to HTML5 which allows for faster running of web-based apps.

And the iPhone isn’t the only one to benefit – Palm Web OS devices will also be able to access it, as well as any other HTML5-compliant handset.

Users will be able to access their Google Voice inbox, set their Google Voice number as the outbound caller ID so return calls come back to your Google Voice number, send and receive text message, and make international calls at the Google Voice rates.

Google Voice is invite only so you’ll have to request one to get involved, but if you’re already signed up – point your browser to m.google.com/voice and check it out. There’s even a video to show you how it all works, so be sure to pay that a visit if you’re still not convinced.

If you try it out, let us know what you think below. Take that, Apple.
