Nope, there’s no 128GB option for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5
Samsung's own site said larger storage was happening, but it appears to have been an error
Like Samsung’s ace Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge before them, the newly announced Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 have a sealed design that eliminates the microSD slot from earlier models. As such, storage is at a premium.
When both phones were revealed yesterday, Samsung said that 32GB and 64GB models would be available, which might have left some storage warriors concerned about hauling around their entire media libraries. Big phone, big storage – right?
Well, overnight, Samsung’s own site listed a 128GB version for both the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5, which made a lot of sense: after all, the standard sized Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both have a 128GB option, and people splashing out even more money for a large phone are likely to be power users.
Sadly, it was a mistake: Samsung tells The Verge today that its sites listed the 128GB version in error for both handsets, and that only the 32GB and 64GB versions will be released at this time. The sites are being updated now as some prospective buyers’ dreams are dashed.
Why skip out on super-sized storage for the S6 Edge+ and Note 5? It’s not clear; perhaps the idea of trying to sell a phone at potentially more than US$1000 had Samsung reconsidering the plan. (In the UK, the 32GB model is £700, so imagine the premium for quadruple the storage.)
Then again, it’s not the only curious decision that’s marred this launch: the Galaxy Note 5 isn’t even coming out in the UK. It’s Samsung’s call to make, but given the recent challenges it’s had selling enough Galaxy phone, we’d think it would want to have its flagships available everywhere and in the sizes people want. But what do we know?
