Promoted: Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 – the smartphone with a twist
Alcatel’s stylish, affordable smartphone is so smart it can work either way up. We put it to the test on a trampoline because, well, why not?
We’ve all been there: you’re merrily bouncing high on a trampoline, and your phone rings. You want to answer it, but by the time you stop bouncing you can barely tell which way up you are, let alone which way up you’re holding your phone.
If you try to answer the phone, you’ll inevitably end up with the thing the wrong way round, and you’ll look really stupid when you try to talk into the speaker while listening to the microphone. What to do?
Thankfully, the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 offers the perfect solution to this everyday trampolining nightmare – or any situation (even ones that don’t involve trampolines) when you need to use your phone quickly but can’t work out which way up you’re holding it.
Why? Because the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 works either way up. It’s got a microphone and speaker at both ends, so whichever way you choose to hold the phone up it will work perfectly.
It’s a flipping brilliant and useful concept even if, for some strange reason, you don’t spend much time bouncing on a trampoline (you don’t? What’s wrong with you?). And that isn’t the only reason the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 will put a spring in your step: it offers similar tech to the big name smartphone models, at a more affordable price.
Jump to the tech stuff
Let’s bounce through the tech specs. There’s a choice of 4.7 or 5.5-inch screen sizes, both housed in ultra-thin and lightweight shells. The 4.7-inch model features a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, with 1.5GB of RAM and up to 16GB of memory. It runs a custom version of Android Lollipop, giving you access to loads of apps and games from Google Play.
There are potent JBL stereo speakers at either end, which can blast out music with enough strength to make a trampoline wobble. There’s also a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera for taking top-quality HD photo and video, and a front-facing camera with a special selfie-friendly wide-angle lens.
Bounce to it
To prove how well the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 works whichever way up you hold it, we put it to the test – on a trampoline. Of course we did. Why wouldn’t we?
