Promoted: There’s more to tech-fixing than ‘turn it off and on again’
A new scheme has been launched to help IT technicians receive the credit they deserve for doing a hard job well
The IT technicians are the unsung heroes of your company. Really, they are. They’re great. Because they make stuff work.
Think about it. When you sit in your office, working hard on your computer (well, with the odd kitten GIF, just for a quick break…), you’re not thinking about the IT technicians that make it all possible. You’re not. You’re just using your computer.
In fact, you only think about IT technicians when things go wrong. Then, chances are, you curse a bit, call them up, and they fix it. Because they’re good at their jobs.
The modern world simply wouldn’t function if IT professionals weren’t good at their jobs. They make everything happen – and all without much praise or recognition. Until now: because BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is out to ensure IT professionals are considered, well, professionals.
Check your credentials
BCS has designed the Professional Register for IT Technicians (RITTech), which serves as a new UK standard to recognise and represent technical staff.
The scheme provides a benchmark of competence for IT technicians, which enables employers to recruit professional staff with the right capabilities – you know, like the fantastic people who keep your company’s computer systems running smoothly.
It’s simple to join, too: candidates sign up via an online assessment process, and are verified by somebody they work with. In other words, people who are already top-notch IT professionals can gain instant recognition to prove it.
It’s a small reward for their efforts – after all, they are the unsung heroes of your company…
