SIM-free Amazon Fire Phone will be £99 until midnight tonight
It's a fire sale. Get it?
Amazon will be selling its Fire Phone for just £99 until midnight today (Wednesday).
The one-day deal will slash the price of the 32GB handset right the way down from £400, following disappointing sales and reviews since its launch.
The Fire Phone scored three stars in Stuff’s own Amazon Fire Phone review. We felt that its Dynamic Display didn’t really bring much to the table, while its lack of access to the entire Google Play Store and cluttered ‘buy everything from Amazon now’ interface, just didn’t justify its launch price tag.
But at £99, it’s a whole different story. For starters, it’s no slouch in the power department, packing in 2GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor – the same piece of silicon that’s beating within the innards of the LG G2.
Its camera is decent too, with a 13MP sensor and optical image stabilisation, producing decent shots in low-light conditions, and it comes with one month of Amazon Prime if you fancy giving the retail giant’s one-day delivery and video services a spin.
4G capability is also available, but despite the fact that the handset itself is SIM-free, it’s still locked to the O2 network, which will limit you somewhat.
According to O2’s page here, you’ll be able to unlock the device if you’re an existing O2 pay-monthly customer, although you’ll still need to see out the rest of your contract.
Pay-as-you-go customers will be able to unlock the handset after 12 months for a one-off fee of £15.
