Third generation Moto G stays cheap, gets waterproof
The 8GB version of Motorola’s budget phone will set you back just £159
Motorola has unveiled its third generation of the Moto G, and this time the budget phone has two surprisingly high-end features: a waterproof build and a 13MP camera.
The new Moto G has increased its pricing a little from the second generation model, with the 8GB version priced at £159 (£15 more) through retailers including Amazon, Vodafone, O2 and Three, and £179 (£35 more) through Moto Maker.
Still, that’s not a huge sum given you get a 5in 720p display (that’s a pixel density of 294ppi), quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4G LTE, microSD slot for expanding storage, a 5MP front camera and the aforementioned 13MP rear camera (up from 8MP) and waterproofing, which conforms to the IPX7 standard. IPX7 means the body is protected against prolonged immersion in water to a depth of one metre. There’s no NFC.
There’s also a 16GB model that ups the RAM to 2GB but otherwise maintains the same specs as its 8GB counterpart. That’ll set you back £209. Both models run the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, and Motorola promises they offer “all day battery life” thanks to the 2470mAh battery.
